Women's Writing Group: Holding Loss

Loss is one of our most consistent companions. In this women’s writing group, we will open the door of our losses—so to speak—invite them in and write a short collection of pieces devoted to them, which is to say, devoted to what we’ve loved, and cherished. Led by Lisa Couturier.

About the event

Loss—whether it’s loss of a beloved, or a favorite tree,  maybe a wild cardinal hit in the road, even an object, like a bracelet or a ring—just might be our most consistent companion in life.  In this five week women’s writing group, we will answer the door of our losses—so to speak—and invite them in. Inspired by the literary structure of two books—one prose poetry, one narrative nonfiction—we will make attempts to tell our own stories. By wrestling with our ghosts and traveling through the chapters of our lives, we’ll  aim to write a short collection of pieces devoted to what we’ve lost, which is to say, devoted to what we’ve loved, and to what we’ll always cherish.

Classes will consist of writing prompts, some glorious and beautiful reading homework, in-class discussions of readings, and at home writing to create and complete your collection.  There will be class time to share writing, for those who wish to.  All levels welcome. No writing experience necessary.  Class size limited to 8 participants to ensure a wonderful small group experience!

Class meets Nov 1, 8, 15, 29, Dec 6th ... Week of Thanksgiving there is no class.

All ELP writing groups will have a joint end of season public reading.  Date and Location to be announced.
